  • Working under the supervision of Site Study Coordinator, the Research Assistant will be mainly responsible for collecting qualitative and quantitative data for 3 years in a-multi-national research study (CATALYST).
  • Participate in study training; participate in the translation.
  • Testing and reviewing of interview guides.
  • Working with the site-based study team and healthcare providers to identify and recruit study participants.
  • Schedule interviews with study participants; conduct and document informed consent processes; securely store all informed consent documents per study procedures.
  • Conduct face-to-face and phone-based quantitative interviews with participants (people interested in HIV prevention and site staff), enter data on electronic devices; conduct in-person in-depth interviews, key-informant interviews, and focus group discussions with study participants; adapt to phone interviews if required due to external circumstances.
  • Tracking study participants over time; identify participants that have missed study appointments; telephone them to conduct follow-up interviews.
  • Upon learning of any serious adverse event or social harm, complete required forms, enter them in electronic database, and immediately inform Supervisor.
  • Obtain study forms from health care providers and enter them into electronic database; review health facility registers, and capture required information into an electronic system; provide and document participant reimbursement per study protocol; accurately complete and maintain all field logs to track study progress and other files, whether computerized or manual.
  • Securely handle and store data collection forms per study procedures; work with the Data Manager and Site Study Coordinator to resolve data queries; consult and communicate in a timely manner any challenges encountered during data collection with the Site Study Coordinator.
  • Transcribe recorded interviews into a standard Word template; support data analysis; organize data, create initial codes, respond to queries from qualitative analysis team.
  • Flawlessly maintain study participant confidentiality.
  • Adhere to the study protocol and all study procedures and implement quality control process throughout the conduct of the study.
  • Share written interview notes and full transcripts on time, as agreed with Study Coordinator. Participate in regular team debriefing meetings.
  • Perform any other related duties.
  Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of experience conducting quantitative and qualitative interviews (in-depth interviews and focus group discussions) for a research study.
  • Experience interviewing adolescent girls, young women, and/or trans populations is preferred. Experience in taking notes during in-depth interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Experience with quantitative data collection using tablets.
  • Experience working with electronic data collection forms in ODK, RedCAP, KoboCollect, SurveyCTO or similar.
  • Must reside near Plumtree District Hospital or within Plumtree
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English, Ndebele and Kalanga required.

Job summary The Field officer will be based in Matabeleland North- Bubi and will report to the Project Coordinator. The incumbent will be responsible for working with Health service providers, community stakeholders and key partners involved in Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) programming; to improve access to HIV prevention, care and treatment services in Matabeleland North-Bubi.

The Wild4life Health Program

Community health services approach in Zimbabwe and globally is recognized as a key strategy to help in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) particularly SDG3 . In Zimbabwe, provision of primary health services is guided by the National Community Health strategy 2020-25 with a focus on rural health facilities and village health workers (VHWs) who act as the bridge between the formal health system and communities using the community health services model . In this context‚ the Wild4Life Health Program has been operating in 3 districts in the Matabeleland North province of Zimbabwe namely Binga, Hwange and Lupane. The overarching objective of the program is to address challenges and barriers to accessing primary health services in underserved, rural communities and help increase access and utilization of high quality and comprehensive primary health services in these rural communities. To fulfil the stated objectives, the program focuses on the following 5 key interventions:

Pangaea Zimbabwe AIDS Trust (PZAT) is leading the implementation of the Maximizing Options to Advance Informed Choice for HIV Prevention (MOSAIC) project in Zimbabwe. MOSAIC, a five-year (2021-2026) global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has a goal to help women prevent HIV by accelerating the introduction and scale-up of new and emerging biomedical prevention products. To achieve this goal, MOSAIC has identified five strategic priorities which are:  
  1. Promote a user-centred approach in which the needs and preferences of users especially adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) are understood and addressed in product introduction and scale-up
  2. Conduct research to expand the evidence base on how to effectively enhance product availability, acceptability, uptake, and effective use
  3. Coordinate and provide technical assistance to global, national, and subnational stakeholders to expedite product introduction in policy and programs by addressing issues related to regulatory review, policy development, resource mobilization, supply chain, delivery models and platforms, monitoring and evaluation, surveillance, and demand generation
  4. Implement research utilization activities and establish mechanisms for rapid, effective knowledge exchange among key stakeholders to facilitate application of existing and emerging evidence on product introduction in policy and programs
  5. Strengthening and sustaining local partner capacityto advocate for the design and implementation of high-quality product introduction activities and research.
  Under the strategic priority number 5 on strengthening and sustaining local partner capacity for MOSAIC, PZAT seeks to engage community Based/Civil Society Organizations (CBOs/CSOs) (as defined under section 5 of this call) that will be provided with capacity strengthening activities focusing on technical and research competencies, including in community/youth engagement, community mobilization, community education/literacy on biomedical HIV prevention options, Psychosocial support activities to support uptake and effective use of PrEP, advocacy, and demand creation. Microbicide Research and Development (R&D) to Advance HIV Prevention Technologies through Responsive Innovation and Excellence (MATRIX) is designed to positively accelerate early R&D for new HIV prevention products by providing an innovative ecosystem in which early-stage HIV prevention technologies can be advanced. MATRIX aims to expedite R&D of products for prevention of HIV in women and meet the unmet needs of women at risk of HIV through engagement of those who are most impacted by HIV by identifying HIV prevention product preferences, needs and priorities to inform technical decisions. This will also be achieved through engaging with relevant stakeholders, end-users and key influencers in relevant locations.   Job Summary PZAT is looking to engage a full-time Project Coordinator to manage the day-to-day activities under MATRIX project based in Zimbabwe. S/he will be based in Harare with some travel around the country and the region for stakeholder consultations and facilitate rapid feedback for product development decision-making. Reporting to the Executive Director, S/He will: Engage diverse stakeholders to define priorities and inform targeted investment of R&D resources for technical, financial and policy decisions pertinent to product development; Develop tools to collect stakeholder including end user perspectives; Identify stakeholder perspectives and convey them to product developers to inform introduction, access and uptake; Provide leadership on stakeholder and end-user engagements in first in human studies, Ensure high-quality, timely, valid and verifiable data collection and analysis, with rapid sharing of findings to inform HIV prevention product designs across a range of products in the R&D pipeline, Develop reports to be shared with Products developers and D2D Hub   Key Duties & Responsibilities The incumbent will: Be able to represent the organization at national, regional and consortium level; Be responsive to Product developer needs; Lead the stakeholder consultations in response to Product Developer needs; Facilitate rapid feedback on specific products based on Product developer requests; Attend and contribute to key platforms such as Technical Working Groups related to HIV prevention products; Participate in regular MATRIX consortium calls; Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the HIV prevention landscape; Demonstrated experience in analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on stakeholder and end-user product consultation; Incorporate lessons learned into Product designs; Proficiency in at least one statistical software package e.g., STATA, SAS, R, excel or SPSS is a must; Proficiency in at least one qualitative software package e.g., NVIVO, Dedoose or ATLAS is a must; Ability to rapidly gather stakeholder and end-user in-put on products under development; Ensure rapid sharing of findings and inform product design; Willingness to travel; Excellent writing, reporting and presentation skills, including fluency in English and one or more of the local languages spoken (e.g., Shona and/or Ndebele)   Qualifications, experience and competencies required A degree in social science or public health. A postgraduate qualification in public health or Social Science, is an added advantage.
